About

I learned Euchre at a kitchen table in Fort Wayne.

Brett Hahn playing cards at the kitchen table with family

I'm Brett Hahn. I grew up in New Jersey. Euchre wasn't a thing there. I'd never heard of it until I met my wife Katelynne in Chicago in 2015 and she mentioned her family played cards at Christmas.

That December I drove to Fort Wayne, Indiana to meet her family for the first time. Her dad Tony sat me down at the kitchen table and dealt me in. I had no idea what a bower was. I didn't know why one Jack outranked another. Tony was patient. The family was loud. I lost badly and had a great time.

That was the last winter I remember everyone putting their phones down.

Katelynne and I live in Indiana now with our family. But somewhere between 2015 and today, the card nights got quieter. Smartphones got better. Social media got louder. The deck started staying in the drawer. Not because anyone stopped loving the game, but because nobody wanted to be the rules referee, and it was easier to scroll than to teach.

I'm a developer. So I built Marty.

Marty is the patient coach who already knows every rule and never gets tired of explaining the left bower. He keeps score. He answers questions mid-hand without stopping the game. He lets Tony just play, and lets the next Tony at the next table learn the game the same way I did. By being dealt in.

Before building Euchre Mate, I spent years in the gaming industry, including running CRM for Jackpot Party Slots, one of the biggest social casino games in the world. I know what it looks like when an app is designed to keep you scrolling instead of living your life. Euchre Mate is the opposite of that. It's built in Indiana, it's ad-free, and it's designed to put the phone down on the table and deal someone in.

If you have a house rule Marty doesn't know yet, or a family variant you've been playing for thirty years, we want to hear about it.
